From first glance this does not look to be beer related but Voodoo Donut in Portland, Oregon is a great way to start the day after a night of drinking. A morning sugar rush is not always a bad thing. I heard about this place from a friend of mine so I thought I’d try it out while out on a trip to Oregon. Voodoo Donut’s slogan is “The Magic Is In The Hole“. Voodoo Donut is located in downtown portland just south of Burnside in what is known as Old Town.
The shop itself is pretty small. Their’s one table inside but on a Friday morning most customers were ordering to go. Their’s a shelf bar outside on the sidewalk that allows patrons to stand and eat, which is what I did. Voodoo does has some unique donuts that come with equally unique names. One donut that they’re a bit more famous for is the Bacon-Maple Bar. Unfortunately I arrived too late and they were all out. Instead I ordered the Maple Bar (minus the bacon) and the Dirt Donut along with a cup of coffee. This is all pictured in the photo above. The Maple Bar was quite delicious. The tasty maple frosting just melts in the mouth. Have you ever had an Oreo on a donut? Well this is what the Dirt Donut is, a raised white frosted donut with chunks of Oreo. The first couple of bites were quite good but after that it became a bit too rich for my tasted. Check out their website for more of their varieties. There are some interesting ones!
